M: Hey everyone, Millie here! I hope you’re all doing well and keeping safe in these tough times! Today I am going to be talking about my story of how I got trolled and how I overcame it.

M: I also just wanted to do a quick shoutout to Elysian Productions because they’ve been so amazing and have given me some great tips on how to deal with some of the horrible messages I have receiving.

M: So I started receiving some hate comments on a few of my Instagram posts about 2 months into the very first lockdown, probably because everyone was bored and spending more time on their phones. At first, I just ignored it and assumed it would be a one off thing but then it started to get really excessive and I was receiving up to 10 hate messages an hour.

M: These were just typical messages like “ugly” “fat” “trash” which were hurtful but I chose to take them in my stride and tried to block them out.

M: But then…I started getting death threats.

M: People were saying that I was “worthless” and I “don’t deserve to live” which were really affecting my mood and making me doubt myself.

M: I knew enough was enough, so I logged out of all my social media accounts for a while just to get away from it all.

M: Then I began searching ways to cope with this type of harassment when I came across Elysian Production’s new documentary ‘Technology: the good, the bad and the ugly’. I felt that I could really relate to everyone who shared their stories and made me realise that the internet is a dangerous place and people need to be more wary of the things they post and who they are talking to online.

M: After taking some advice from their website I realised that all these haters are just so irrelevant, and I shouldn’t let the words of cowardly people sitting behind their screens affect my life and it shouldn’t affect yours either!
